Xoobit
Yesterday I started to use Xoopit. It is a social network currently in closed beta based around your Gmail inbox. It takes all the mail that you get from various other social networks such as Flickr, Picasa, and Youtube to name a few and displays it all above the inbox. Anytime that your contacts upload a new picture it appears there. After using it for a bit I really find it useless. I don’t receive an overwhelming amount of email from these networks so maybe if I did then I could find more use in it.
The bigger question here is Inbox 2.0 really that useful or just sensory overload? Yahoos inbox from what I have seen seems like there is to much going on. When I go to check my email I want to be able to do it in a simple fashion. I signed up for Flickr because I want to use the site and not have my email show me all this information. There are arguments that email is the biggest untapped social network. I think it is untapped because people don’t want it to be. Email is for messages and the social networks are there because they do it well enough that I dont need an app to make the site usable.
